This Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m. Central, Alliance Française of Tulsa members are invited to attend a free webinar from the comfort of their home computers. The session will be hosted by Pamela Druckerman from Paris, as part of her popular Pandemonium U series of educational sessions on Zoom (this session is sponsored by the national Federation of Alliances Françaises, of which AF Tulsa is a part).
Pamela (in the righthand photo) has lived in the City of Lights since 2004 and is the author of four books including Bringing Up Bébé: One American mother discovers the wisdom of French parenting, which has been translated into 30 languages. She’s been a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times since 2013 and a columnist for the 1843, The Economist’s monthly magazine since last year.
In the 45-minute Zoom meeting, Pamela will discuss the topic “Americans in Paris: Dream vs. Reality” with Lauren Collins. Lauren (at left in the photo) began contributing to The New Yorker in 2003 and became a staff writer in 2008. She has been based in Europe since 2010, where she has written about topics ranging from French baby names to Emmanuel Macron. She’s the author of When in French: Love in a Second Language, which the New York Times named as one of its 100 Notable Books of 2016.
The two will discuss in a lively exchange: How is Paris coping with Covid-19 lockdown and “déconfinement”? What’s it like being a foreign correspondent here, and how have the main stories changed? Are there secrets to learning French? Will we ever fit in? Two American journalists talk deadlines, hemlines, punch lines, and all things French. The discussion will mostly be in English, with a smattering of French terms.
