History of La Chandeleur

La Chandeleur is a French holiday celebrated on February 2. At its roots, La Chandeleur is the equivalent of Candlemas in English. But today, La Chandeleur is celebrated in France by eating crêpes!

This holiday has been associated with crêpes since the 5th century. Some people even refer to it as Le Jour des Crêpes (Crêpe Day).

In addition to crêpes, La Chandeleur is associated with many interesting superstitions. One superstition states that holding a coin in your non-dominant hand while successfully flipping a crêpe in a frying pan will result in a prosperous year!
