Bienvenue à 2020-2021!

Notre force, ce sont nos membres!

Merci à toutes et à tous! Thank you to all our members for your continuing support and participation in the activities of l’Alliance Française de Tulsa.

Remember back in September 2019, we held our La Soirée de la Bienvenue at La Madeleine at Tulsa Hills.  Two sets of French classes, beginner and intermediate were starting in October with students dreaming of that trip to France.  The high school students were enjoying their practice time at Le Louvre during their Convo Crèpe mornings on Saturdays.  And Natural Grocers was welcoming our conversation group on alternating Saturdays.  The third Thursday in November found us at Foolish Things Bar & Biscuit for some Beaujolais tasting (mais sans le nouveau). Our meal for the Dîner de Noël held in The Vault’s Tom Room was great as was the music of François Lareuse.

In February 2020 – La Chandeleur reception was graciously hosted by Charlotte Jabbour Neller. And March brought a visit from Marcel Van Dam who performed multiple Free Concerts for Students of French for a total of 250 students at Jenks MS & HS, Sand Springs MS & HS, Edison Prep, Univ of Tulsa, and Oral Roberts Univ. And for the adults at Neff Brewing, and the AFdeT Evening of French Songs.

The Oklahoma French Film Festival was to be March 21 – 25, 2020 at Circle Cinema with support from the Tomasino family. The planning team was very close to finishing the film and activities schedule – but the city shut down instead. The screening list included Jusqu’ici tout va bien (New Biz in the Hood), Le daim (Deerskin), Le vin se lève (Wine Calling), Les Drapeaux de papier (Paper Flags), and Intouchables.  You might enjoy watching these on a streaming service.

And now we’ve all shuffled gracefully to Zoom conversations, Zoom classes, and Zoom book clubs.

We began Zoom conversations on Saturday April 11, and I am so thankful for everyone who is joining in! We are all learning how to orchestrate conversations, politely go around the screen so everyone gets a chance to speak!  Thank you Jared Morgan and Poppy Kelley! And we’ll continue on alternating Saturdays until Natural Grocers re-opens their meeting space.

Students numbered 39 for this year, and classes are continuing via Zoom also – thank you Nan Melton for your fine work. Class information can be found here.

Bienvenue 2020 will be held via Zoom on October 3rd from 11am – 12noon.

Oliver Gee, author of Paris on Air was scheduled to visit in Tulsa (in May) to promote his book. Instead he is making a virtual book tour, and will be interviewed by Ken Busby for l’Alliance Française de Tulsa. You can learn about Oliver, his podcast, and buy his book from his website.

And due to COVID-19, all subsequent in person events have been paused from planning. We have penciled-in some future tentative dates:

Beaujolais Nouveau (11/19/20)

La Fête des Rois  (1/6/21)

La Chandeleur (2/21/21)
